Maori Language Week, Linda

Maori Language Week at the Glen Innes Library

Today, Room 9 travelled by bus to the  Glen Innes Library.
We were met by  the Kaiakos there. They taught us how to use the  Rakau and the Patu, two of the most used  Maori weapons.

Then the Kaiakos read us a story about Mt Maunga, Awa, Pirinihi , and Matou. All of us Tahua tauira had a mock war using the the Patu and the Rakau  while the story was being told.

I muri I e tatou huihui ki te porotaka. Na tatou huihui ki mohio pehea ki hanga e pokepokea ,
Te mauri koe e kia hiahia ko:
Ringa o Paru * Hononga : Mould designs Mould Makings
Ta hei Matau
Ma Tauera
Wai pene

Some Maori Kai words you could learn?
Kuku - Mussel
Tuna - Eel
Ika - Fish

Eventually we had to leave for our te kura Glenbrae.
I had the most wonderful time learning about  Maori and how Tamaki Makaurau used to be flat. I hope others enjoyed too.

  1. This is a good recount of your trip to the Glen Innes Library Linda. It is pleasing to read that you have used some new Maori words in your recount. Well done. Keep up with your good work.
