Making Bread, Robin

Making Bread

One day in the weekend I decided to follow up on our science learning at school so I made 2 loaves of bread. I used the Edmond's Cookbook recipe to make the Wholemeal Bread.

First of all, I combined the first ingredients in a bowl. The yeast fed off the honey in the warm water and created froth with water underneath.

Yeast is a single-celled organism and needs four conditions if it is to begin dividing and growing, which is how it raises the dough. The sugar starts the fermentation. The heat makes the yeast start working but too much heat will destroy it. Another condition required for yeast to work is moisture which, like the heat, is provided by the hot water. Time is needed to complete the process.

Next I put in the wholemeal flour and the high grade flour in a another bowl. I then mixed the frothy mixture with the solids. I then kneaded the dough, put the dough in how water and waited. I then kneaded it again then put it back in hot water. I let it rise then baked it.

It was yum and I made 2 loaves.

Science Week, Maara

This week, the senior school had its science intensive week. All the students from Rooms 7,8,9 and 10,went to different classes and learnt different things.

On Wednesday Room 9 students went to Room 8 with Mrs Moopanar and we made fizzy lemonade and it did not taste so good. It tasted like a rotten orange. We also did another experiment with ice cubes.

On Thursday, Room 9 students went to Room 7 to make some bread. We walked inside and there was a table of ingredients for the bread. There was yeast, sugar, flour and much much more. We made a mixture so we could pour it into a bottle and put a balloon on top, we put it into the sun to make the balloon rise.

On the same day, we visited Room 10 to see what we were going to do. We walked in and there was ingredients to make scones. There were 2 ingredients that were standing out to me. L & P and Sprite. We made the sconces and ate it with milk, it was so yummy.

Science Week, Inoke

Science Intensive Week                                                                                          This week. the senior school had its Science Intensive Week. The major focus of the lessons was to look at the properties and changes of matter. We now know that there are three states of matter. they are solid, liquid and gas.

The first room we went to was  Room 8. We learnt what matter stands for and the meaning of matter is anything that has mass and volume and occupies space.

Then the day after that we went to room 7. We learnt how to make bread. The most thing that you can smell was the yeast.
The things we used were yeast, vinegar, salt and baking soda. Then Mrs Pome’e took the dough to the oven and left it there to bake.. Mrs Parker said that she would give it to us after morning tea.
Then after morning tea we went to room 10. We learnt how to make Scones with fizzy drinks. We used L & P and Sprite. Then we waited for half an hour. While we were waiting, Mrs.  Tofa told us to stand in a semi circle and we played 21. After half an hour the scones were ready. We ate it with our milk.  and it was yum.

Finally the Science Intensive was over. It was fun but my favourite one was in room 10 because we got to eat the scones I enjoyed having that Science session with the teachers..
