Making Bread, Robin

Making Bread

One day in the weekend I decided to follow up on our science learning at school so I made 2 loaves of bread. I used the Edmond's Cookbook recipe to make the Wholemeal Bread.

First of all, I combined the first ingredients in a bowl. The yeast fed off the honey in the warm water and created froth with water underneath.

Yeast is a single-celled organism and needs four conditions if it is to begin dividing and growing, which is how it raises the dough. The sugar starts the fermentation. The heat makes the yeast start working but too much heat will destroy it. Another condition required for yeast to work is moisture which, like the heat, is provided by the hot water. Time is needed to complete the process.

Next I put in the wholemeal flour and the high grade flour in a another bowl. I then mixed the frothy mixture with the solids. I then kneaded the dough, put the dough in how water and waited. I then kneaded it again then put it back in hot water. I let it rise then baked it.

It was yum and I made 2 loaves.

PB4L Learning

I did a Google Drawing on PB4L Learning and I took a screenshot of it and have put it here. I have put a picture on it. It has a yellow background and is on orange. The picture is a Keep Calm picture with a crown on top of it.

Sign Language Week

Sign Language Week

This week  is Sign Language Week and I am doing a game called Sign Ninja. I am good at it so I took a screenshot of the food page and have inserted it. I know what it is about but I can not do the signs well and I am learning how to do them with my hands better.

Malama Honua Voyage

On a bright, warm Wednesday 25, March Morning, The senior school from Glenbrae School walked down to Pt England Beach to see the wakas which came from Hawaii. We left school at 8:45 am. The wakas were called Hourua Hokule'a and Hikianalia.

We got to Pt England at 9:05 am and sat down on the wet grass but Fraser and I sat on dry grass around the tree. We waited for 5 minutes and then we saw another waka coming in. The waka was called Hourua Hokule’a. It was big and it had a speed boat with it. We stood up and sang E Oho O as some of the people on the waka came in to the shore in a speed boat.

The speed boat went back for more people. When all the people were off the boat, we sang He Honore. After that, some people from the waka, gave speeches.

Finally we sang Nga Waka E Whitu. Then starting with Pt England we walked past the people on the waka and slapped their hands as we passed. We ran up the steps and waited in our classes. We walked back to school with Rooms 9 and 10 at the back and Rooms 7 and 8 at the front.

On a site called Free Rice, I got 5,000 grains of rice which goes toward people who are hungry in different countries in the world.

To get the grains of rice, I had to answer Maths questions or questions which were "What does the word mean?".

It is designed for all abilities or for all ages.

Reading Activity 4

The Fish Highway by Adele Jackson

WALT: Learning to make predictions on what is going to happen next in the text by using the key words in the preceeding sentences and paragarphs.

The oldest pipes that snake along Wellington streets are brick lined and they are the stormwater pipes. They have fish living in and near them. Some of the pipes were built about 1880. The pipes are highways for fish and eels.

One night a Fish Scientist saw some fish swimming in and out so she decided to investigate. She used a 250 metre long tape measure to tell her if there were any fish. She used her pack on her back to make the fish unconscious. Then she put the fish in a container and measured it, recorded what type it was. Then she put it back in the water and found another fish to record. She recorded the details about the fish in a notebook. There were 2 types of fish there and the longfin eel.

The city is putting up kelp ladders so the little fish can climb them to get into the stormwater pipes. The newest pipes have bricks poking up so the little fish can rest on them and they can go up there if the current is too strong.

Our Body Systems and How They Work, Inquiry Learning

WALT: We are learning about our body systems and how they work.

The Respiratory System
The Respiratory System (also called the Ventilatory System) is a biological system which has specific organs and structures. They are used for the process of respiration in a organism. The Respiratory System is involved in the intake and exchange or oxygen and carbon dioxide between an organism and the world. Respiration takes place in the respiratory organs called the lungs.
  • The passage of the air into the lungs to supply the whole body is known as inhalation and the one going out is known as exhalation.
  • The Trachea leads to the lungs through the windpipe
  • The windpipe splits into two different pipes
  • The first one is called the Bronchus and leads into the chest with many different pipes going off the main one
  • The air comes through our nose, through the windpipe to the lungs, then the carbon dioxide comes back up on the other side of the windpipe and out of the mouth

Circulatory System

The Circulatory system, (also called the cardiovascular system) is an organ system which helps to transport blood, gases (such as amino acids), oxygen and nutrients around the body. It helps to nourish the body, but also helps to fight off diseases in the body, keep body temperature as well. It is often composed as both the cardiovascular system (which distributes blood) and the lymphatic system (which circulators the lymph). The heart is made up of four chambers. There are two chambers on each side. The two chambers at the top are called atria, meanwhile the chambers on the bottom are called the ventricles.

Why the Moon is Upside Down, Story Review

Why the Moon is Upside Down by Trish Puhorich

Niko and Ani had lived and known each other for years. Then Niko’s mum was offered a good job in Japan and Niko’s family moved to Japan.

Ani got an email from Niko and Niko said that the moon looked like is was upside down, so they decided to take a photo of the moon every night for seven weeks. It did not work good because the cameras did not have good zooms so it was not close up.

Niko and Ani agreed that it was not working. Ani thought that they could try drawing the moon. They drew the moon for seven weeks. They found out that Niko’s drawings were the same but they were the other way up.
