Recount, Aaliyahna

Malama Honua

Malama Honua Event

On one bright, sunny Wednesday morning, the 25th of March, 2015 all of the Manaiakalani cluster schools went to the Pt England Reserve to see the wakas (Hourua Hokule’a and Hikianalia) that came from Hawaii.

Firstly we walked to our assembly spot and  we sat down. Then we saw the first waka that was already there. After a while, we sang a waiata and did the actions while  the crew from the Waka came to the shore.

We all stood up while the crew came ashore. Then the Ka Matua spoke to the guests who had come ashore.  After that we sang a waiata and did the actions to He oho ra e and we all repeated it a lot of times. We saw the leaders from the twelve schools in the front near the microphones singing gracefully.

After that the crew from the Waka sang and a few of their leaders spoke to us about their visit. Then they  sang a  Hawaiian song. Soon after that a few students from Point England School  spoke to us  about the Malama Honua event.

Finally we went down to the beach to greet and farewell the crew with a few hand shakes and high fives..

  1. This a good recount of events that took place at the beach Aaliyahna. I would love to know what you felt about the event.
